Project Mend and Make Do

We had a talk. The money talk. Someone insinuated that I should cut back on my spending. Now if you know me, you know that I am a thrifty shopper. I don't pay full price for anything. I hunt for bargains. My husband's complaint is that all my thrifty finds add up to a number that is not so thrifty. I admit that fabric is my big indulgence. My defense is that I am a creative soul that cannot go very long without creating something. He didn't buy this defense. So... I decided that for the time being, I will have to mend and make do.

My first project:

An old shirt that lacks luster

Combined with crocheted edging that I cut off of an embroidered pattern

I did get a ton of compliments today (however, I do work at a nursing home).
It did make me happy, and it was free!
Maybe this won't be so bad.

  4. I love it! how did you attach it on, through sewing? I just did a similar thing to a shirt as well, but I glued it on!

(I agree that getting bargains means a little when you keep finding TOO many ones!!)

When I started buying lots of crafts to "expand" my business, I sold my old clothes and some furniture on craigslist... so the hubby couldn't say anything :)

  5. Great job on the shirt!

I totally understand the problem with "too many" good bargain finds...I was going to Goodwill regularly to find cheap and vintage items for projects - until I realized I spent at least $35 a trip!!
